MetroWest Medical Center Celebrates National Nurses Week

May 6, 2024

Several activities planned for our nurses to take part in and enjoy

Framingham, Mass. – MetroWest Medical Center is proud to honor our nurses during National Nurses Week, May 6-12. This annual celebration recognizes the critical role nurses perform in our hospital and for our community.

National Nurses Week is celebrated annually to coincide with the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, on May 12. Like Florence Nightingale, our nurses serve with passion and dedication, fighting for their patients every day. As Florence Nightingale did in her time, our nurses represent a profession of advocacy and strength.

“Every day, we are thankful to all of our nurses and humbled by the way they care for our patients,” says Denise Kvapil, RN, Chief Nursing Officer of the Massachusetts Market including MetroWest Medical Center. “Our nurses are respected for their unwavering devotion to our patients, their families and each other. Their resilience, leadership, support and immense sensitivity are at the heart of our continued focus to deliver compassionate care.”

Our nurses have many roles – staff nurse, nursing leader, educator, infection preventionist, nurse practitioner, and more. They serve these roles with a passion for the profession, their patients, team members and a strong commitment to patient safety.

“Never has there been a more important time than Nurses Week to recognize and honor the women and men who have chosen nursing as a profession,” says John Whitlock, Chief Executive Officer of MetroWest Medical Center. “To all the nurses at MetroWest who sacrifice themselves to heal others, thank you.”

MetroWest Medical Center has planned many activities to celebrate and thank our nurses, including a continental breakfast, a dress up day, themed gift baskets, pizza day, a Daisy Award ceremony honoring one of our amazing nurses, honoring Nightingale Awards, and a gift for all nurses.

To our nurses, we say thank you for being champions of care. You cheer patients up when they need encouragement, you care for them in the most challenging of circumstances, and advocate for them when they need it the most. Thank you for your steadfast care – a vital sign of your devotion to your patients and each other. We are Better Together because of you.
