MetroWest Medical Center Celebrates Nurses Week

May 10, 2023

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – MetroWest Medical Center is proud to honor our nurses during National Nurses Week, May 6-12, an annual celebration that recognizes the critical role nurses perform in our hospitals and for our community. It also coincides with National Hospital Week, which is celebrated May 7-13 and a unique opportunity to recognize all of our healthcare teams.

National Nurses Week is celebrated annually to coincide with the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, on May 12. Like Florence Nightingale, our nurses have served with passion and dedication, fighting for their patients every day. As Florence Nightingale did in her time, our nurses represent a profession of advocacy and strength.

“Every day, we are thankful to all of our nurses and humbled by the way they care for our patients,” said Naomi Seymour, Interim Chief Nursing Officer for MetroWest Medical Center. “Our nurses are respected for their unwavering devotion to our patients, their families and each other. Their resilience, leadership, support and immense sensitivity are at the heart of our continued focus to deliver compassionate care.”

Our nurses have many roles – staff nurse, nursing leader, educator, infection preventionist, nurse practitioner and more. They serve these roles with a passion for the profession, their patients, team members and a strong commitment to patient safety.

“Nurses Week and Hospital Week are a special time of year to celebrate the remarkable nurses, healthcare workers and team members of MetroWest Medical Center,” said Interim Chief Executive Officer John Whitlock. “We are grateful to all of our teams every day for putting our patients first and for their essential support to ensure every patient in our community receives high-quality care.”

MetroWest Medical Center celebrates its staff with week-long activities including:

  • School spirit! Nurses to wear and show off their school pins.
  • Food deliveries. Complimentary meals, snacks, ice cream and candy deliveries to the hospital staff within their units.
  • Pop-up store. To purchase scrub uniforms for patient care workers.
  • Recognitions. Award ceremonies and coworker appreciation prize drawings.
  • Blessing of the hands. A physical, emotional, and spiritual healthcare prayer at all nursing units.
