MetroWest Medical Center in Massachusetts Launches Robotic Surgery Program Featuring da Vinci® Si™ Surgical System

Framingham, MA (March 29, 2018) – MetroWest Medical Center completes its first robotic surgery, and with the acquisition of the da Vinci® Si™ Surgical System, now offers a new minimally invasive surgery option for patients with the development of this program.

The da Vinci® Si™ has several unique features that can provide clinical benefits and efficiency in the operating room, some of which translate to potential patient benefits. Benefits of robotic-assisted surgeries may include:

  • Significantly less pain
  • Decrease in blood loss
  • Less scarring
  • Fewer complications
  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Shorter Recovery Time
  • Faster return to normal daily activities
  • Better clinical outcomes

The first robotic procedure at MetroWest, an inguinal hernia repair, was completed by general surgeon, Dr. Robert Canning.

The technological advancement provide surgeons at MetroWest Medical Center with dexterity and control that enable a minimally invasive approach for many complex surgical procedures. It can be used for a multitude of procedures, including, but not limited to: single site cholecystectomy, colectomy, hernia repair, hysterectomy, oophorectomy, robotic prostatectomy, bariatric surgery and ovarian cyst surgery.
