MetroWest Medical Center Team Member Earns Citizenship

Apr 11, 2018

Framingham, MA – April 11, 2018 – MetroWest Medical Center celebrates Maria Diaz for becoming a United States citizen! Maria is originally from Retalhuleu, Guatemala. She left Guatemala 22 years ago due to political unrest and safety concerns. After receiving her U.S. permanent resident permit in 2012, Maria knew she wanted to become a citizen so she would be able to participate in voting and become more involved.

Maria Diaz and MetroWest coworkers celebratingThursday, March 22, 2018 is a day Maria will never forget. On that day, she took her citizenship test. Each candidate for citizenship studies information about how the country works, and receives a list of 100 questions, of which six will be asked. Maria was ready!

“I can’t believe I passed the test, and made it,” shared Maria. “It took so long, but now my dream to become a citizen has come true.”

Maria has been a member of the MetroWest Medical Center team for two years. She currently works as a Personal Care Assistant. Her team members planned a surprise celebration to recognize this great achievement. “I was so surprised when I came to work,” said Maria. “They had a party for me! It was so thoughtful and I am so happy!”

Thank you for joining us in recognizing our phenomenal team member! We are very proud of Maria’s accomplishment!
