SUDBURY — Back in August, police officers and firefighters worked together to save a person who was having a heart attack.

The MetroWest Medical Center recently honored them, giving them the Call of the Quarter Award during a ceremony at the Sudbury Fire Station.

Earning the award were fire Capt. William Francis; Lt. Kyle Gordon; firefighters Alan Larochelle, Jaime Ragusa and Daniel Wells; and Police Chief Scott Nix and officers Ethan Karol, William Crisafulli and Dylan Haldiman.

The Call of the Quarter is to recognize “heroic” life-saving efforts by first responders in MetroWest. It is awarded four times a year.

“We’re proud of how they take care of this community, and proud of the relationship we have with them to coordinate care for every patient.” said Sudbury Town Manager Henry Hayes, in a statement. “I am immensely proud of the outcomes, but even beyond that, the heart and character of this team. It’s because of the entire team collectively, and we can’t do it without each other.”

The incident the first responders were honored for occurred in August. Police were first to arrive and recognized the patient was going through cardiac arrest. They first began CPR and then used a defibrillator. The Fire Department then arrived and provided advanced life support.

According a press release, the patient was awake and alert by the time he arrived at MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham due to the work of the officers and firefighters.

“It’s truly an honor to work with these first responders, and the efforts they made for this patient were unbelievable,” said Dr. David Morris, medical director of the emergency department at MetroWest Medical Center, in a statement “Thanks to the work they did that day, this patient now gets to spend the holidays with their family, and that’s a gift.”

“We couldn’t do what we do without partners like this team of emergency responders in Sudbury,” added Ava Collins, CEO of MetroWest Medical Center. “We’re proud of how they take care of this community, and proud of the relationship we have with them to coordinate care for every patient.”
